Calendar of Events for Hope & Beyond August 2010 (as of July 30th/10)

The Hope Visitor Centre is located at 919 Water Avenue and is open daily 8AM to 8PM throughout August.
August 1st to 28th – “Something Old, Something New” in the Back Room at the Hope Arts Gallery featuring the artwork of Diane Mackenzie & Linda Shepherd. Daily 10AM to 5PM
August 1st & 2nd – 100th Annual Abbotsford Agrifair & Rodeo at Abbotsford Exhibition Park. See www.agrifair.ca for details.
August 1st – Summer Concert In The Park featuring “Gerald Charlie & The Black Owl Blues Band” from Lake Errock. At Memorial Park in Hope from 2PM to 4PM. Free
August 1st – Opening reception at the Hope Arts Gallery for the “Something Old, Something New” exhibit by Linda Sheppard & Diane McKenzie. 2PM-5PM.
August 1st – BC Day Weekend Celebration at the Hope Museum. Come celebrate British Columbia’s birthday today from 11AM to 2PM. Contact the Hope Museum at (604)869-7322 for more details.
August 1st – Outdoor evening concert in Boston Bar featuring tribute artist performing Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash & Ray Doucette hits from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Doors open at 7PM and music at 8PM. Only 300 seats available. Tickets in advance from Canyon Lanes in Boston Bar for $20 for ages 17 & up or $15 for youth 6 to 16. Call (604)867-8800 for more info. August 3rd to 6th - Hope Recreation Centre Summer Fun Camp for ages 6-12 from 8:30AM to 5PM daily. This week the theme is “H2O Adventures”. Must pre-register & pay.

August 4th – Super Weirdo Wednesday Show featuring hilarious comedy & juggling with lots of audience participation. Presented by the Hope Library Summer Reading Club at the Hope Arena Mezzanine at 2PM. Family oriented – free!
August 4th – Matt Jenkins entertains at a fundraiser for the Hope United Church at their Hall at 7PM. Featuring rock & roll, country, latin and all your favourite dance music. $10 per person includes appetizers. For tickets call 604-869-3771 or 604-869-5052
August 7th – Take the Art Bus with the Hope & District Arts Council to Granville Street in Vancouver for their “Gallery Crawl”. Must pre-register by calling 604-869-3400. $25 per person.
August 7th – “Hike the Hudson Bay Co. Trail” with a fur trade historian & the Hope Mountain Centre for Outdoor Learning. See www.hopemountain.org for details.
August 7th – “Zumba Dance Party Demo” at the Hope Arena Mezzanine from 3 to 4PM for ages 15 and up. Zumba is a fusion of Latin dance and international music that creates a dynamic and exciting dance fitness program. No dance experience necessary, just a desire to move to great music. Must pre-register & pay $5.50/person.
August 7th - Enjoy live music by The Crew performing at Skinny’s Grille at 7PM
August 7th & 8th – Junior Golf MiniCamp at Hope Golf & Country Club. Players from 5 to 17 years of atge can enrol in one to three hour sessions with former LPGA player, Jennifer Greggain. August 8th – Food Safe course at the Hope Rec Centre from 8:30AM to 5:00 PM. Must pre-register & pay $80 /person.

August 9th – “The Rosie Ribbonstar Show” brings lively musical entertainment for the whole family - especially the kids! A bouncy energetic sing along performance! At the the North Bend Community Hall at 1PM. $5.50/person or $8.50/family.
August 9th to 13th - Daily Vacation Bible School 'Backstage with the Bible" from 9 am to noon for grades two through seven. There is no cost. Games, crafts,Bible lessons, music, songs and snacks. At Grace Baptist Church at 949 Third Avenue - Hope. For more info call 604 869-5524.

August 14th – “Flowers Festival & Tea” at Christ Church National Historic Site in Hope from 1PM to 3PM. A tour of the historic site with Christ Church exquisitely decorated with flowers, followed by a special afternoon tea. Tickets available in advance from Site or Hope Pharmasave for $10 per person. August 14th & 15th - Cops for Cancer Annual Pole Sit – At the corner of Wallace Street & Third Avenue in front of Hope District Hall. Come and support Constable Leslie Betker who will set atop scaffolding for 32hours to raise money for children with cancer.
August 15th – Cops for Cancer 10th Anniversary Event at Memorial Park in Hope from 10AM to 2PM. Meet the 2010 Tour De Valley team plus games for kids; great food; 50/50 draw and community garage sale (table rentals available). For more info call 604-860-9624

August 15th – Elvis Rocks the Canyon Cafe invites everyone to an Elvis Celebration featuring 5 Elvis Tribute artists from noon to 6PM. Outdoor venue so bring your own chair. A celebration of the Fraser & Thompson rivers featuring artisans, lots of music, street dances & market, a raft race, mini pow-wow, salmon bakes, kayak demonstrations, Saturday fireworks and much more.
